
Friends of FLAAR emerged as the result of a collaboration on a NSF funded project (iDigBees.org) project and the Biodiversity Outreach Network. Lil' Smart Bee was developed to serve as a bilingual resource aimed at teaching elementary aged children in Guatemala about native bee diversity.
FLAAR Mesoamérica (Foundation for Latin America and Anthropological Research), is a nonprofit founded in Guatemala dedicated to field research and the publication of biodiversity materials under co-founder and director Nicholas Hellmuth. The organization is known for their educational resources that educate children about the biodiversity of Guatemala. Their animation team Mayantoons is a project and division of FLAAR Mesoamérica.
